If you've been following along on the blog for the past few months, you would know we have done our best to answer all of your most frequently asked questions. Today's blog post is no exception. We are talking all about how to clean your Gigi Pip hats.
Cleaning your felt hat can be a delicate task. Whether you need to give it a light cleaning to refresh and revamp your Gigi Pip or you literally wear your hat every day and you would put it through the washing machine if you could, we've got the tips, tricks, and hacks for keeping your Gigi Pip hat looking brand new and squeaky clean. We are sharing a few hat cleaning options and a few stain removing remedies. Keep on reading folks.
1. Hat brush
Use a hat brush to help remove dust and dirt from the surface of your hat. For best practice, gently brush the hat counterclockwise, starting at the front and working your way around. You can purchase a hat brush here.
Pro tip: Always brush in the same direction consistently.
2. Lint roller
A good rule of thumb always keep a lint roller on hand to remove lint, hair, and dust. For all those out there that have a wardrobe primarily consisting of black, you know what I'm talking about. Lint rollers save lives. Put that on a t-shirt. If you aren't that well prepared, you can use a piece of tape to remove that stubborn dust and debris your hat might collect over time. For the tape option, just wrap the tape around your hand, sticky side out and gently sweep and dab across the surface of your hat.
Pro tip: Replace the tape frequently to ensure you remove as much as possible.
Use a dry, clean cloth to brush dried dirt, dust and any other debris off your hat. Dried dirt may flake off easily as you wipe it. For stubborn dust, wet the cloth so it's moist, but not too saturated and continue to wipe your hat.
If you've got messy kiddos on your hands or you are just spill prone, we've got just what you're looking for when it comes to hat stain removal. You can just use an eraser or makeup sponge to remove any stains. Gently dab or smudge the stain.
Pro tip: Don't ever rub your stains. That just allows the stain to set in deeper and makes it harder for removal.
Another option is to purchase a dry cleaning sponge, you can find them at most hardware stores or here. These sponges are a great investment because they are designed with stain removal in mind.
1. Corn Starch
If you notice a grease stain on your hat, sprinkle a little cornstarch over the stained area. We recommend a half tbsp to start. Rub it gently on to the stain. After 5-10 minutes, brush it away.
2. Fabric Stain Remover
Everyone has some sort of fabric stain remover lying around their laundry room. Get out that damp cloth and add some fabric stain remover. Our favorite gentle stain remover is Woolite. After stain treatment, rinse the cloth and rewipe stains to remove stain remover from hats.
To refresh and deep clean that prized Gigi Pip hat. Sprinkle some absorbent powder similar to the color of your hat to avoid any discoloring. Let the hat sit for several hours to allow the powder to soak up dirt and oils. Place it upside down on its crown to avoid misshaping the brim. Shake off the powder and remove the rest with the hose of your vacuum cleaner.
Pro tip: Use wheat germ for dark colored hats, baking soda for white hats and cornmeal for beige and tan hats.

Cleaning the sweatband
To freshen up your sweatband, use a toothbrush, water, and mild soap to gently scrub and blot dirt.
You can also use felt hat protection spray to safeguard your hat from rain and stains to extend your hat's shelf life.

Women's hat sizes are fairly intuitive. The average women's head size measures around 57cm. If you are unsure of your hat size the Gigi Pip small/medium hat would be the best starting point. The small/medium hat size is made to fit 57cm + can be adjusted down to 55cm. If you know you have a slightly larger head go with the 59cm size. As far as Gigi Pip sizing goes this is a medium/large, made to fit a 59cm head size + then can be adjusted down to 57cm. The largest size Gigi Pip offers is a 61 cm, labeled as an XL, like our other sizes the 61 can be sized down to 59 cm. For women who feel they have a slightly smaller head than normal we recommend an XS which begins at 55cm + can be sized down to 53 cm. In select styles we offer kids sizing which begins at 53 cm + can be adjusted to 51 cm.
In short- the most common hat size is a S/M (57cm). While this is the most common hat size, remember that properly sizing your Gigi Pip hat will ensure the best fit.
There are two primary methods of measuring your hat size + are based on the style in which you wear your hat. You will need to take both measurements (shown below) + then use the larger of the two measurements to determine your hat size. Once you've received your hat, you can decide how you would like to wear it + adjust your hat size accordingly.
TIP: If you don't have a textile measuring tape, use a string or piece of yarn to measure the distance around your head. After you have marked the yarn around your head, lay it out flat on the ground or table + measure the straightened out piece of yarn with a measuring stick or regular measuring tape.

Hat Sizing Tape Instructions
Hat sizing tape is an additional option for tightening the fit of your hat. Place the foam tape on the inside of your hat, behind the sweatband, with the sticky side facing towards the hat wall. Wrap the tape completely around the hat for maximum size decrease or cut tape length in half for a more moderate decrease. Size to fit prior to removing the adhesive cover. Once the fit is correct, remove the adhesive cover, press firmly into place, and wa-lah.
