May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month so we invite all our Gigi Pip friends to join us in learning about the dangers of skin cancer + how we can prevent it! Here are some fast facts...

  • Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States
  • The two main causes of skin cancer are the sun’s harmful UV rays and the use of UV tanning beds
  • 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70
  • Skin cancer is the only cancer we can prevent
Skin Cancer Awareness Month

As scary as skin cancer is - we have hope! With it being something we can prevent, below are some preventable measures we can take to avoid skin cancer...

Apply sunscreen every day + reapply every 2 hours
Find a local dermatologist + schedule an annual visit
Skip the tanning oil + avoid tanning beds at all costs
Seek the shade
Our favorite tip - WEAR A GIGI PIP HAT

Did you know that Gigi Pip hat materials have been UPF rated? What is UPF you ask? According to skincancer.org, "Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) indicates how much UV radiation (both UVB and UVA) a fabric allows to reach your skin." The materials used to make our hats have been rated 50+ which is considered excellent! Our favorite straw hats with the best UPF are the Ozzy, Addie, Bre, Aiden, River, Gwen, Isla, Corey + Capri. Other great choices include the Dahlia, Wren + Emma.
